Brand Art Sensation: The Inspiration & Research

Brand Art Sensation is the title of my next solo exhibition in London.

The inspiration came as I was watching the BBC Three documentary Secrets of Super Brands (fashion episode), in which luxury fashion journalist Dana Thomas discusses the pyramid model of luxury brands with Alex Riley. She explains how luxury fashion brands make most of their profit through selling affordable goods to the masses; yet through a delicate balance, they manage to market themselves as exclusive. I realized that this model was very applicable to celebrity fine artists and the way they advertise themselves and market their artworks. I have decided to highlight celebrity fine artists marketing and product management with a show that will turn three celebrity artists into fictional fashion brands, making new logos, large format fashion photographs, silk scarves, perfumes bottles and finally billboards to kick-start a public debate. I have chosen the title Brand Art Sensation to recall Charles Saatchi’s Sensation exhibition which publicly launched in 1997 the YBAs.
